Generate Investment Update – October 2024
In this month’s Investment Update, Generate KiwiSaver’s Nathan Field takes 5 minutes to share his insights following a trip to the US. He also discusses the Chinese sharemarket and whether Generate invests in China. The key takeaways are:
· In the Tech sector every company he saw continues to lean into AI. There is still a lot of innovation, investment and excitement. AI is going to be at the core of technology for a long time to come.
· In the Financial Services sector, banks were quite upbeat and not seeing any problems in credit or delinquencies. They are optimistic going into next year with the prospect of declining interest rates.
· As things stand today, it was a positive take on the state of the US economy.
· Nathan is looking forward to the US election being behind us. It is the uncertainty, rather than the outcome, which markets dislike most.
· China’s comprehensive stimulus package was viewed positively by investors. There is a lot of upside if the Chinese government gets it right this time.
Established in 2013, Generate is an active fund manager investing in leading companies in New Zealand and overseas.
The investment team carry out extensive research on all prospective investments. They then actively monitor the performance of the selected investments to ensure they meet their high standards. Australasian equities are predominately made up of listed securities on the NZX and ASX. International equities are made up of direct investment in international stocks, as well as through some of the best fund managers in the world. These fund managers are selected due to their quality, scale, resourcing and expertise – which is generally not available in New Zealand. They include Warrant Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway, US based T.Rowe Price and Australian investment manager Magellan Asset Management.
The company is regularly recognised for its award winning KiwiSaver service and their funds consistently rank highly for long-term performance.
